The challenge
- →A disposal well had casing damage / a stump at ~153 ft blocking concentric access.
- →Access had to be restored to put the well back on line or remediate it.
- →Very shallow target with tough logging conditions and end-of-pipe signal effects.
Our solution
Active gradient ranging with the 1.85" DeadSet™ tool plus an in-line gyro, conveyed through open-ended drill pipe, located the casing stump and gave gyro-referenced direction and center-to-center distance. The ranging call guided a staged milling re-entry through the damaged casing to re-establish a concentric path.
Concentric access restored, well returned toward service
The result
2.4 ft
to stump, casing stump located at ~153 ft; milled re-entry
- ·Ranging call: stump at center-to-center ~2.4 ft at ~186 ft MD
- ·Gyro-referenced direction matched the as-surveyed target
- ·Guided a staged milling campaign (concave mills, bent motors)
- ·Restored concentric access to put the well back on line / for remediation
