Coiled-Tubing Sidetrack & S-Curve Re-Drill

Kansas, USA  ·  2025

Gyro-While-Drilling casing exit and S-curve re-drill to access a channel sand

The challenge
  • Re-access a producing well by sidetracking to a channel sand.
  • Precise casing exit required from a whipstock window in 4-1/2" casing (~5,100 ft).
  • Underbalanced, small-diameter (3.875") coiled-tubing drill to a channel at 5,600–5,800 ft.
Our solution

Gyro-While-Drilling (GWD) gave true-north steering for an accurate casing exit off the whipstock, then guided an S-curve coiled-tubing re-drill toward the target channel, run as a field test of a Gen-2 coiled-tubing BHA + GWD package.

Accurate casing exit and S-curve re-drill, Gen-2 BHA + GWD field-proven
The result
Gen 2
BHA + GWD, field-tested package
  • ·GWD true-north steering for an accurate casing exit off the whipstock window
  • ·Coiled-tubing S-curve re-drill toward the channel sand (5,600–5,800 ft)
  • ·Underbalanced, 3.875" open hole from the 4-1/2" casing exit (~5,100 ft)
  • ·Field-proved the Gen-2 coiled-tubing BHA + GWD package
