Shallow Close-Proximity Intercept Plan

Oklahoma, USA  ·  2024

A shallow, close-proximity intercept engineered for a first-pass connection

The challenge
  • Intercept a shallow target well from a closely-spaced offset well.
  • Wells only ~20 ft apart at surface; very shallow target (~650–700 ft).
  • Tight, low-margin geometry demanding precise ranging and steering.
Our solution

Gunnar engineered the intercept-well plan and ranging program (IGRF-2020 referenced): the offset well steered to the target with magnetic ranging from a ~20 ft surface offset on a minimum-curvature trajectory to a controlled shallow intercept.

Shallow, close-proximity intercept, engineered for a first-pass connection
The result
~20 ft
well spacing, shallow intercept at ~650–700 ft
  • ·Designed the intercept-well trajectory and survey program
  • ·Magnetic-ranging plan referenced to IGRF-2020 with gyro / MWD
  • ·Shallow target (~650–700 ft MD) from a ~20 ft surface offset
  • ·Minimum-curvature plan for a controlled close-proximity intercept
